Pig Iron

Ingot pig iron (part of "Pickles" mining display), June 2007

Pig iron is made from iron ore and processed at a blast furnace. The pig iron is then sent to the steel mill to be made into cables, beams, etc. The cables on the George Washington Bridge and the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge were made from Lyon Mountain iron ore.
